Anurag Thakur: News

Anurag Thakur is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician and a four-time Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. HAs of 2021, he is the Minister of Information & Broadcasting as well as Youth & Sports Affairs in the Government of India. Thakur did his BA from Doaba College, Punjab. Son of BJP leader and former two-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Prem Kumar Dhumal, Thakur contested elections for the first time in the 2008 Hamirpur Lok Sabha bypoll and won. He has successfully retained the seat from 2008 onwards and won the 2019 election with a record margin, defeating Congress's Ram Lal Thakur. He was the President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) from 2011 to 2016. Earlier the Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), he took over as the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) chief in 2016, but was sacked from the post in 2017 by the Supreme Court of India for having failed to carry out the required reforms in the sports body and for not satisfying the criteria for the top office as set out by the court earlier. Thakur had worked as MoS for Finance & Corporate Affairs during 2019-21.
